Trying to get my mystery readers over to the action-adventure genre was my challenge when I set out to write City of Gold. I thought about what mystery readers love and realized that if I kept the pace moving along and threw in a kidnapping, a police investigation, and murder, I should have them hooked. After all, mystery readers do love action—even if it normally comes in the form of hunting down a killer or watching their favorite law-fighting heroes in a standoff for their lives.

In City of Gold, readers meet archaeologist and adventurer Matthew Connor and his two closest friends Cal Myers and Robyn Garcia in the first chapter as they’re running and dodging bullets through a jungle in India! As it turns out, treasure hunting is very dangerous! And readers don’t have a chance to forget that throughout the book.

While they end up escaping the jungle, they haven’t escaped the interest of the party who was after them in India. They are set on getting the artifact and to show Matthew they’re serious, they kidnap Cal’s girlfriend Sophie and threaten to kill her if Matthew doesn’t deliver. But the artifact is now in the hands of the Royal Ontario Museum and next to impossible to steal back. Besides Matthew and his friends aren’t thieves. Pushed to the wall, Matthew ends up offering the Incas’ Lost City of Gold, though he has nothing more than a possible lead to its location. And the ransom is set: the City of Gold in exchange for Sophie’s life.

And maybe that would be doable, but the what’s-at-stake only deepens when Matthew is given six days to find the city that’s been lost for centuries. As he and his friends race against the clock, they quickly discover that the streets they seek aren’t actually paved with gold, but with blood. And with every ticking second, it seems uncertain whether he’ll be able to save Sophie before it’s too late.

Whew! My heart is racing writing this up for you… I hope the story gets your heart pumping fast.

As a gift to you, I’m offering up a FREE extended sample of the City of Gold.

Your friend in suspense and adventure…
