One hit man who’s back for revenge.
One detective who’s not going down without a fight.
It’s been ten months since Detective Madison Knight almost died at the hands of Russian Mafia hit man Constantine Romanov. She hasn’t seen hide nor hair of him since he escaped police custody and fled to Russia soon after his arrest, except now her latest murder investigation gives her reason to believe he’s back in town. Seeing as the victim is the man who killed her grandfather, her perspective may be a little skewed, but with the MO smacking of Constantine and the victim’s connections to the mob, she finds it hard to be objective. Still, she’s doing her best to consider all the evidence.
When she receives a threatening letter from Constantine, however, her suspicions are confirmed. And he’s made it abundantly clear that not only does he plan to finish what he started but he has her family and loved ones in the crosshairs, too. Madison vows to do whatever it takes to save them, but as the hours race by, the body count rises. And the stakes only get higher when Madison’s sister, Chelsea, goes missing.
Now, Madison’s only play is to take Chelsea’s disappearance for what it really means: Constantine is calling Madison out for one final showdown. And they won’t both survive…

“Power Struggle is a murder-mystery with a thriller tone that takes the readers on a journey of action, suspense and emotions.”
“I love the character Madison Knight. She is a great detective, and I think this series would make a great TV show. I received this book as an arc for honest review.”
– Harps Romance Book Review
“Action-packed with a lot of moving parts… Mysterious to the core.”
–Texas Book Nook’
“Arnold has created a novel that really takes the reader into the lives of her characters. This novel shows how much a writer can understand her genre and target audience to make sure every in and out is authentic.
“The mystery elements in these novels are always very well done as well. She creates scenarios that are not easy to unravel and keep you invested throughout the entirety of the novel. I don’t want to be able to figure everything out too early in a novel, I want to be surprised.
“I enjoyed this mystery immensely. It was very well done.”
–Novel News Network
“This one is a definite page turner. I was very impressed with Carolyn Arnold’s way with words and how she has kept Madison Knight’s character fresh from novel to novel… Great suspense and mystery. Definitely kept me guessing.”
–My Reading Addiction
“Ms. Arnold is one of my favorite writers!… The further I ventured into the book, the more those eerie shivers crawled up and down my spine. I’m almost certain by the time Chelsea (Madison’s sister) ‘disappeared’, my heart was lodged somewhere in the area of my throat… If you like reading police procedurals, mysteries, thrillers or books in similar genres, Power Struggle, ok, but the whole Madison Knight Series should be on your radar, if not your TBR list, or better yet, your bookshelf!”
“First of all, that blurb completely drew me in. I was pleasantly surprised by the way Carolyn Arnold was able to keep me on my toes… A great mystery novel with crime fiction undertones that will also appeal to fans of suspense and crime.”
–The Indie Express
“Real and vivid. I liked the way that the author wove her tale… Characterization was huge in this novel. The characters were all very well-developed and had their own motivations and faults. It made them seem more real to me as the reader.
“I also really liked the flow of this novel and the way the suspense and action unfolded. It felt very smooth… lots of mystery and suspense, and superb writing.”
–Momma and Her Stories
“The climax of the novel really reeled me in and I was on the edge of my seat. A wonderful mystery!”
–On A Reading Bender
“A fantastic mystery… Arnold’s characters are well-developed and read like real people… A smooth moving plot with a mystery that kept me flipping pages to the very end.”
–A Life Through Books
“Having not read this series before now, as it makes a great stand alone, I can only assume that this instalment is a brilliant addition to the series. The characters are well-defined… It’s hard not to love a book with a cold-hearted villain so with that point alone, the book is a high recommendation from me… One day maybe I’ll go back and read this series from the start. Only having read one book from Carolyn in the past, from her Brandon Fisher FBI series, it’s easy to see that Carolyn has a way with words and creates such wonderful and enjoyable books. Any of Carolyn’s work is an easy recommendation to anyone wanting to dip their toes into reading crime or to anyone who already loves reading crime novels and wants to add another book or indeed another 3 series of them to their book shelves.”
–A Books Eternal Glory
“Gritty and emotionally jagged, Carolyn Arnold’s Power Struggle pours on the suspense as one twisted assassin plays hide-and-go-seek with a detective who refuses to give up, no matter what… Hard-boiled police work at its best, suspense that is taut and the urgent race against time make this an edge-of-your-seat read as danger hits too close to home for this detective…”
–Tome Tender Book Blog
“The story was well written and flowed nicely. There was some humor in there which I always enjoy even in thriller books. I like that at the end you get closure and you aren’t left with questions.
I would recommend this book.”
–From Ink to Paper
“This is the first book I have read by Carolyn Arnold, so I did not know what to expect, but from the very first page, I was hooked and was unable to put it down and ended up reading it through the night until I finished it… To say this book was a page turner is an understatement, and I read quite a lot of books this year. Power Struggle has gone straight to my number one spot of great reads of 2017, and I have now found an Author that is on my must-read list. You will have to read the book for the plot as I do not like to give it away it is well worth spending your money. I most definitely will be recommending Power Struggle to everyone five stars and more from me.
