One of the greatest joys of being a writer is discovering new things about yourself through every book you write. Nowhere to Hide was no exception.
When I first sat down to write this story, I knew I wanted an exciting mystery filled with suspense, twists, and danger. What I didn’t expect was how much fun I would have diving into the police investigation aspects of the novel. Researching investigative procedures, building clues, and figuring out how the pieces of the mystery fit together became one of my favorite parts of the writing process.
There’s something incredibly satisfying about creating a puzzle for readers and then carefully revealing the truth one piece at a time. Every interview, every clue, and every breakthrough in the investigation challenged me to think like both a detective and a storyteller. It pushed me creatively and made the entire writing experience even more rewarding.
Another unexpected highlight was meeting a brand-new character: Cindy Moore.
Writers often talk about characters introducing themselves, and that’s exactly what happened with Cindy. As I wrote, she stepped onto the page with a strong voice, a compelling personality, and plenty of stories to tell. The more I got to know her, the more I realized she wasn’t finished after Nowhere to Hide.
In fact, Cindy will be getting a series of her very own!
I couldn’t be more excited about this next chapter. Whenever a character captures my imagination this strongly, I know readers are likely to connect with them as well. Cindy has so much potential, and I can’t wait to explore her adventures, challenges, and growth in future books.
Perhaps the biggest discovery of all, though, was realizing just how much I love writing strong female characters.
Throughout the writing of Nowhere to Hide, I found myself drawn to creating women who are intelligent, resilient, determined, and capable of facing difficult situations head-on. Whether they’re solving mysteries, confronting danger, or navigating personal challenges, these characters inspire me as much as I hope they’ll inspire readers.
Writing strong female leads feels natural to me, but Nowhere to Hide helped me recognize that it’s also one of my strengths as a storyteller. There’s something powerful about creating women who aren’t waiting to be rescued but are actively shaping their own destinies.
As authors, we’re always learning and growing. Every book teaches us something new. Nowhere to Hide taught me that I love crafting investigations, that exciting new characters can appear when you least expect them, and that writing strong female characters is a passion I want to continue exploring for years to come.
I can’t wait for readers to experience Nowhere to Hide and, soon enough, to meet Cindy Moore again in her own series. The adventure is just beginning.
