You may have heard that Nowhere to Hide, book three in the Sandra Vos series, released last week, but did you know this is the book almost didn’t happen? And I mean that… I had proposed a story to my publisher but when it came time to write it, I wasn’t feeling it at all. It wasn’t authentic to me. This has never happened to me before, so I was floundering some. After all, I’m not a quitter! The thing is the base element felt so strong to me—a family being held prisoner in their home. It turned out, the setting had really sold the pitch to my publisher. But what to do…?
First I had to answer, what would push a person to hold a family in what is to be their safe haven? It had to be dark and sinister, and since I had a wealthy family in mind, my thoughts went to a scandal. The opening scene of the book came to me. I saw a woman driving down the road, nerves frayed, when suddenly there’s a crash! It was so strong, I was writing it in my head. Then with some encouraging words and a prompt from my editor at Bookouture, everything fell into place! It was magical. I quickly came up with a revised storyline, mapped it out, and got to writing.
And, it gets even more magical from here. More on that next week, but if you pick up Nowhere to Hide and get to reading it, you’ll be on the inside track ahead of time!
