The Silent Witness, the third book in the Detective Amanda Steele Series, released just last week. Be sure to grab yourself a copy of this absolutely, unputdownable crime thriller! It’s available in e-book, paperback, and audiobook!
In this book you’ll meet Zoe Parker and see the maternal side of Amanda really come out—despite her best efforts to keep herself at an emotional distance. You’ll come to find out that Zoe’s favorite little friend is a stuffed dog named Lucky, or formally addressed as Sir Lucky.
Sadly, Zoe witnessed the murders of her parents and at first is completely uncommunicative, but there is one person she does open up to: Amanda Steele. If you’ve been following the series, you’ll know that Amanda has her own demons to excise as the grief from losing her family is always there eating away at her.
Enjoy this brief excerpt from Chapter 21:
“Lucky’s mad. Very mad!” Zoe pursed her lips in a scowl. “He couldn’t help Daddy.” She sniffled.
“Sir Lucky did the right thing, Zoe. So did you. You both stayed in hiding. If you hadn’t, you both could have been hurt.”
“But Daddy got hurt. Mommy got hurt.” She burrowed her face in Lucky’s “fur.”
“Sometimes…” Was she really going to give Zoe the spiel that sometimes bad things happen? She wished she could shield this little girl from that fact of life, but it was far too late. “I’m so sorry, Zoe. Things happen that can really hurt us. I know that sort of pain.”
Zoe lifted her head and looked right in Amanda’s eyes. “Lindsey and her daddy.”
Amanda nodded and bit her bottom lip, quelling the urge to also tell her about the unborn baby she’d lost. Of course she wouldn’t. That would be too much. Besides, only Amanda and her doctor knew that truth, and she preferred to keep it that way.
